Are You Farther Along?

  
I am all for transparency and humility, but one who stands before God to speak must also be one who is farther along in the journey than most he is attempting to lead. As Haddon Robinson humorously points out,

"Preachers of course, have to be more than 'fellow strugglers.' No one is helped by 'You're a loser; I'm a loser; let's keep losing together.'"

Stackhouse on Honoraria

  
See John Stackhouse's article, "The Dirty Truth About Honoraria" here. I have wrestled with the issue of compensation and ministry and have made it a policy not to raise the honorarium issue when receiving an invitation. But I know that others approach it a bit differently. I am grateful that I have not experienced any of the "horror" stories recounted by Stackhouse and have generally been graciously compensated. That being said, this article does provide important insight into what often goes into a speaking/preaching engagement time and expense wise.
