I'm not sure that this video recreation of Post-Exilic Jerusalem is entirely accurate and there by necessity is a significant amount of artistic imagination but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The Place of Trumpeting Inscription

Leen Ritmeyer has an interesting post here on the "place of trumpeting" inscription found in the southern Temple Mount excavations. One point that I found intriguing was Leen's suggestion that the inscription may have been Broken inadvertently by Charles Warren in 1867.

Dating the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

National Geographic has an article related to the recent repairs performed on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Some mortar samples were collected during the restoration and "the new test results have revealed that the lower slab can be dated to Roman times and was "likely mortared in place in the mid-fourth century under the orders of Emperor Constantine." 7th Century Papyrus Mentioning Jerusalem?

Apparently, a 8th century BC papyrus which mentions the word “Yerushalma” (possibly meaning “to Jerusalem”) has been discovered. You can read about it here. 

Correction: The news story above dated the manuscript to the 8th century but the IAA actually reports it as a 7th century text.

Another Ancient Seal Found in Jerusalem

A seal found in Jerusalem and dated to the first temple period belonging to a woman named Elihana bat Gael has been found. You can read about it here,  here, and here. A seal like this might help illustrate passages such as Proverbs 31:16.

Why is Jerusalem called Jerusalem?

Haaretz has an interesting article here discussing how Jerusalem came to be called Jerusalem. I was able to read the article but it may be behind a pay wall depending on how you access it.
