SBL Seminar Papers

The Society of Biblical Literature recently made the following statement.

Each November from 1971 through 2003 the Society of Biblical Literature published a collection of papers that would be presented in the sessions (or seminars) at that year’s Annual Meeting: the SBL Seminar Papers. The contents of the collection were determined not by theme or topic but by which papers were submitted to SBL early enough to be assembled into a volume and printed for distribution at the Annual Meeting.
Over the thirty-three years of the Seminar Papers’ existence, SBL published forty-one physical volumes (two volumes each for 1971–1975, 1978–1979, and 1998) containing 1,126 papers that filled 19,849 pages. Although the Seminar Papers explicitly identified their contents as “working documents,” “experimental and initial work on a subject,” many continue to be cited in scholarly work today—that is, when one can locate a library that owns them.
Now, nearly twenty years after the last volume was published, SBL is happy to announce that all 1,126 papers have been digitized and are openly available for anyone to read online or download. All forty-one volumes can be accessed here as a part of the Pitts Theology Library Digital Collections.

"SBL in October" Sale

Some readers might be interested in Eisenbraun's "SBL in October" sale. Even if you are going to the Society of Biblical Literature meeting in Atlanta in November, you might want to consider taking advantage of this offer. Not only do you get the convention prices, but there are two additional advantages. You won't need pay Atlanta's sales tax and you won't have to worry about how you are getting the books home (especially with airlines and their bag limits and fees). There is also free shipping for orders over $99.00. But the sale is only until October 18. Here is a link to the sale

New Testament Theology at SBL

There was apparently an interesting panel discussion Sunday night at SBL between James Dunn, Frank Matera, D. A. Carson, and Udo Schnelle on Schnelle's just published
New Testament Theology. I had wanted to attend and I purchased the volume, but my travel plans did not allow it. But here are two different blog postings on the discussion for those who were and were not able to attend here and here. Anyone record it?

Search Full Text of All SBL Books

Mark Hoffman has brought attention to a way to scan all SBL published (currently?) books. Although I have not tried it out yet, this could be a helpful tool. Read his post
here for details.
