Hardening of Pharaoh's Heart

I think Duane Garrett expresses well how I explain God's hardening of Pharaoh's heart.

Interpreting the hardness of Pharaoh’s heart, therefore, we should not deny God’s power to bend and move the human heart, but neither should we imply that Pharaoh was coerced into doing something that he did not really want to do. God stiffened Pharaoh’s resolve, but the will to oppress Israel and resist God was his own.

Pharaoh’s "Heavy Heart" in Exodus

Daniel Zucker has an interesting post here on Pharaoh’s "heavy heart" in Exodus. Zucker argues that "heavy heart" is related to Egyptian understandings of judgment in the afterlife and is a better way to understand the idiom in Exodus often translated as hardened heart.

The Battle of Megiddo Podcasts

I have been listening to a number of podcasts while I jog/walk. One that I have enjoyed is The History of Egypt Podcast. I recently listened to three that related to Thutmose III and the Battle of Megiddo fought 15th century BC. Although it is not strictly speaking a biblical event, I thought I would include the links here.

67. Armageddon
67b. The Battle of Megiddo (A Dramatic Reading)
68. Campaigns of Victory

Jewish Temples in Egypt

Although this
story in the Jerusalem Post is not exactly biblical in nature, it does contain a fascinating synopsis of recent archaeological work in Egypt related to two Jewish temple complexes, one located at Leontopolis and the other at Elephantine, that existed during the Intertestamental period.

Thanks to Todd Bolin at his Bible Places blog for pointing this out.
