Is French Still an Important Language?

I am not trying to be controversial here but this New Republic article offers a provocative challenge related to the traditional study of French. While the article is not specifically concerned with academic biblical studies, I think that there might be some applicability. In my own doctoral work, German was more significant and fruitful by far than French.
