Top Five Commentaries on John

Ligonier Ministries has a list and discussion of their top five commentaries on John. The list is pretty solid. One might quibble as to whether D.A. Carson's work should be number one, but it certainly belongs in the top five. I also think that Schnackenburg should be in the top five. To the runners-up I would add Laney amd Moloney (Sacra Pagina series). In any case, the top five they have listed are:

2. Craig S. Keener -- The Gospel of John: A Commentary (2003).
3. Leon Morris -- The Gospel According to John (New International Commentary on the New Testament, 1995).
4. Herman Ridderbos -- The Gospel of John: A Theological Commentary (1997).
5. Andreas J. Köstenberger -- John (Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament, 2004).
